Our dear Governor, Chris Christie, shut down the government the weekend of July fourth because he is awesome and politicians only care about the greater good of the people.
This meant all of New Jersey's prettiest parks/parts were closed on Independence Day.
So, we said, "see ya losers," and headed to New York.
To stroll along The High Line.
It was a most magnificent little adventure.
And by adventure I mean walk along 1.5 miles of elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail.
The High Line was created on a former New York Central Railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan where the city's prettiest landscapes, architecture, design and ecology were highlighted from every angle.
It is basically the raddest and has become a serious contender with Central Park as my most favorite Manhattan destination.

It didn't hurt that the weather was perfect.
Or that the children were abnormally pleasant and compliant.
...likely because we brought a family of friends along.
It was a morning made of picturesque moments that I will not soon forget.
When we got home, we busily prepared for our big BBQ {featuring Allen's basically famous baby back ribs} with a couple super fun families, then drove into Summit for Fireworks.
Bless this beautiful USA for providing endless reasons to celebrate.
Even if Chris Christie is not one of them.
{he most certainly is not}
